In October, I started my new position as a research scientist at Starkey Hearing Technologies. I’ll be studying how we can improve hearing aid technology so that listeners can better understand speech in real-world listening environments.
My poems, “Ekphrastic Universe” and “Jan” received honorable mentions for the Steinography Award and Southern Minnesota Poets Society Award, respectively.
Dr. C. C. Heffner and I wrote a paper analyzing how cochlear-implant listeners segment running speech into words, which was published in the Journal of the Acoustical Society of America last month. Check it out here: 10.1121/10.0006448
Finally, we are watching a lot of Coco, hour-long garbage truck video compilations, and Buster the Bus at our house. I’m taking a stab at NaNoWriMo. Schyler’s cleaning five litter boxes. And every morning lately, our yard has been sprinkled with snow.
