This year was a struggle for reading! I had a tough pregnancy (gestational diabetes, hyperemesis gravidarum) that made it hard for me to read words on a page without feeling ill.
Here are my favorite books of 2019:
- Special Exits by Joyce Farmer (graphic novel)
- The Descent of Alette by Alice Notley (epic story in verse)
- We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson (horror)
Some runners up:
- Death Comes for the Archbishop by Willa Cather
- The Vegetarian by Han Kang
- East of the Sun and West of the Moon by Kay Nielsen
- Born a Crime by Trevor Noah
- Circe by Madeline Miller
